Arab World Mourns the Death of Veteran Journalist Mohamed Hassanein Heikal
Egypt and the entire Arab World woke up to shattering news today! Leading Egyptian journalist and political commentator Mohamed Hassanein Heikal died Wednesday morning at the age of 92. Diagnosed with kidney failure, Heikal is going to be sorely missed!
Heikal spent more than 15 years of his professional career as the editor-in-chief of Al-Ahram newspaper. Regarded as the most renowned journalist of his tenure, Heikal wrote daily columns for the affluent newspaper. His work is considered by many as a valuable source for the history of the modern Middle East.
In addition to journalism, Heikal was also a political commentator, hosting his own television program. While he extended his services to Al-Ahram, Heikal produced the largest volume of his books that offer stunning vision into the politics of Egypt and the Middle East post Sykes-Picot up until the eve of the Arab Spring.
