- Launch of Chinese passenger aircraft
- China’s home-grown passenger aircraft is designed to seat 168 passengers and has a standard flight range of 2,532 miles.
- Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China Ltd. (COMAC) has received 517 purchase commitments from 21 customers.
Aviation was the only sector where China was missing in action. However, the launch of its first large passenger jet C919 has put the superpower nation on global aircraft stage. While the made-in-China aircraft is due to make its flight appearance in 2016 with test flights for about three years before being put into commercial use, the new invention is sure to elevate Chinese economy.
Though the C919’s is developed by state-run Commercial Aircraft Corp. of China Ltd., or COMAC, some parts of its critical systems including engines and avionics have been provided by international companies and foreign-Chinese mergers. Reports indicate that COMAC is also going to develop a smaller regional jet, that’s expected start operation by the end of this year.
With superb engineering talent, low-production cost and a great market, speculations remain high to see if China can beat world’s largest and fastest Airbus and Boeing.
