Global Health Experts Advise: Keep the Volume Down
- Around 40% of young adults are exposed to loud music at events
- Intensity, or loudness, and the duration of listening determine safe listening levels
To cut it short
In an alarming new statement, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has revealed that young people are at great risk of hearing loss. Global Health Chiefs claim that listening to music should be restricted to only one hour a day to protect the ear’s sensory cells. The WHO described volumes above 85 decibels for eight hours or 100 decibels for 15 minutes as ‘unsafe’.
