College Students Walked for 10 Hours to Avoid Using Dangerous Buses
- Jordanian university students
- Unsafe transportation
- Jordan has over 40 degree-granting universities spread across its governorates
- Over 13 thousand students in the Hashemite University commute by bus every single day
To cut it short
In the wake of a series of harmful events, the last of which being a bus heater explosion, students at the Hashemite University in Jordan are taking a stand against their university’s unsafe transportation system. The protest began with a 10 hour walk from their university in Zarqa city to the bus station in Amman, and will soon be followed by an overnight stay at the university.
The unfit buses are said to be old, poorly maintained – leading to major safety risks – and insufficient in number. Students have complained about this issue for years and demanded the university to address it fairly, but little has been done regarding the problem which seems to be ever escalating.
