IKEA Furniture Behind the Death of Two Children
- Home safety
- recalls in IKEA
- Ikea’s Malm chests fell on two kids leading to their deaths in 2014
- Despite being called a recall, the problem is being solved by new free wall anchoring kit without returning any furniture
To cut it short
Following the death of two children aged 2, IKEA has recalled 27 million Malm chests and dresses. The deaths were caused by the Malm chest tipping over and pinning the children.
Despite the whole operation being termed as a recall, in reality customers don’t have to return any furniture. They just need to order or pick up a new free wall anchoring kit to attach the chests to a wall.
This isn’t the first IKEA furniture incident of its kind, 3 deaths have taken place since 1989, all related to tip-overs of dressers and chests.
