Milk: Healthy or Dangerous?
Cow Milk has always been associated with good health. Doctors and scientists have always considered milk as the most important source of calcium that reduces the risk of various disorders and boosts immunity. However, does the most consumed beverage actually yield goodness? Let’s find out!
- A Recent Study on Milk: A recent study on milk indicates that consuming the so-called goodness factory increases fractures in women and decreases life expectancy in both men and women.
Researchers have discovered that consuming 3 or more glasses of milk per day increases chances of death, leads to cardiovascular diseases and can even cause cancer. While this has been an observational study only, researchers believe that milk acidifies the body pH which in turn activates a biotic alteration. Hence, the calcium that our bones need is used to neutralize the acidifying effect of milk. Once calcium is pulled out of the bones, it leaves the body via the urine, resulting in calcium deficit.
- Milk is processed: Another study suggests that anything that is processed or treated from its raw state is deemed to be dangerous. Homogenizations alter milk’s chemistry and actually increase its detrimental acidifying effects.
- Milking Cows are Genetically Engineered: Studies indicate that cows are injected with antibiotics to increase milk production. While this may increase the milk supply, it also increases the risk to several cancers.
- Final Verdict: While the study does throw some light on interesting facts it is to be noted that milk has been considered as a nutrient-dense food since ages. Modernization and urbanization may lead to certain discrepancies; however there is no comprehensive study that debates the goodness. We would say if you love milk continue relishing your favorite delicacy, but if you don’t like it there are ample of substitutes that can help you gain the calcium!
So stay happy! Stay healthy!
