Twitter is Suffering From Existential Dilemma
- Disappointing quarterly earnings
- Twitter CEO Dick Costolo attributed the first quarter revenue of $436 million(short of a projected $450 million) to the underperformance of Twitter’s new direct response ads
- Twitter recently acquired “TellApart” in hopes of rejuvenating company revenues
To cut it short
No doubt Twitter’s strength lies in being the pulse of the internet, but unfortunately the 140 character messages are proving to be a tough platform to build a multibillion dollar business!
Twitter wanted to monetize its users by showing them ads that are relevant to them but now it’s obvious that Twitter’s future does not lie in a Facebook-like model essentially because Twitter sees its user base, whose growth is flattening, not as customers but as content producers. Though the company isn’t dead it’s definitely walking wounded.
